From Provesende to the world

With its unique façade, cherished as a “Brazilian roof” by the locals, this century-old house with its brown beams wrinkled by time shows a resilience to be commended, comparable to the Alto Douro Wine Region in which it is located.

The schist-floored patio, overlooked from above by the extraordinary wooden veranda, makes it a unique place to (re)discover the meaning of life. Experience what Miguel Torga and so many other artists immortalised in the writings they left us. With a variety of rooms to accommodate different types of guests, it is suitable for couples, families and groups of friends who wish for a comfortable and memorable stay.

The 400 square metre outdoor area of the house allows you close contact with nature. The ground alternates between schist and lawn and is made up of water mirrors and a pleasant garden with cypress trees and local vegetation (e.g. santolina, lavender and rosemary).

The water mirrors are ideal for bathing in summer, when temperatures easily reach 40°C! There is also a century-old water well that used to serve part of the village, which has been restored and is accessible via a schist staircase.

The spacious dining room seats up to 12 people and a television strategically hidden behind a large mirror in an “old gold” colour gives the space spaciousness and light. Of particular note are two antique crockery pots owned by the house and carefully restored by the owner’s father.

Don’t forget the large, typical granite-floored fireplace where the smoked meats used to dry. A wood-burning stove has been installed in this fireplace which, in addition to the existing air conditioning, allows you to warm up and relax on cold winter days to the sound of burning wood.

With everything at your disposal in the quiet wine-growing village of Provesende, in the municipality of Sabrosa, it’s only a matter of time before you fall in love. It shares outdoor space with the Douro Villas – Pateo D’Ouro and Reino Maravilhoso.
